Moving from California to Texas: Why so many are eager to swap states

I am curious on heating/cooling costs on the homes. Article calls out the size differences, but bigger is usually more expensive to maintain. I suppose it depends what part of CA you are moving from?
And good luck to all the locals that may be getting priced out of homes now. My understanding is folks moving out of CA generally have an absurd amount of buying power, and aren't nearly as intimidated by high costs. I'm curious how much of that is accurate, versus "sour grapes" in other areas.
It's not always sour grapes. Many in the mid-west and mountain-west are no longer able to stay in the houses that they or family members built due to being on fixed incomes retirement + social security, etc... Even if the home is paid off the property taxes are climbing exponentially. For people not on a fixed income it may be some sour grapes for now until such a time they are on a fixed income and then they may not be able to afford the property taxes.
This is even occurring with millionaires believe it or not. An example would be Jackson Hole, WY not far from me. The millionaires are complaining that the billionaires are pushing them out. The millionaires then move further away driving the property taxes up in their destination. It seems to be a cascade effect of sorts. Perhaps there is a better name for it.
Maybe. I think that is just symptomatic of the tech industry being mostly concentrated in CA so they get the blame. Tech is everywhere but I mostly see new California plates here. I was a CA transplant and moved to a dense Mormon community so they have been nice to me despite being from CA. Other parts aren't so nice to transplants. About 60% of the people here are from CA and that is climbing daily. We techies are certainly driving up property taxes. The state tax assessors love it they even come visit me and we've had conversations about this. The people, not so much.
In the 80s I lived in LA and my mother and father came out from Illinois where they lived to visit so we took a road trip up hwy 101 to Oregon. Everywhere went there people were rude as could be.
After a few days of that I finally confronted one of them, asking "WTF is your problem?" and they told me. They said "You Californians are coming here to buy homes and land and you've raised the prices of both so high our kids can afford to buy a home or land to build one on and we've been living here for generations."
I couldn't blame them for being pissed. They had good cause.
