Ask HN: Some .NET domains available but not available

I recently checked all 2 letter/number combinations of .net and discovered crsnic is reporting a bunch of domain names as available but any attempts to register these at a handful of domain registrars report they're not available?

For example;

  $ whois -h whois.crsnic.net ye.net
  No match for "YE.NET".
