For the uninitiated (I guess I live under a rock), what is threads?

When I open the link I just get a funny logo and the "from meta" label

A twitter clone with a different, less impulsive weirdo CEO at the helm.

Lol. I cant wait to share my data with a guy who said his platform's users are "dumb f*cks" for sharing their data with him. Yummy

does the "less" refer to "impulsive" only, or both "impulsive weirdo"?

My vote is that Zuck is just as weird, but less impulsive.

I was talking specifically about the "impulsive" part. Sorry, english is not my first language and adjectives order[1] truly messes up with my brain.

And attempting to EEE the fediverse out of existence

EEE = embrace, extend, extinguish

"We plan to support ActivityPub"

"They want to kill ActivityPub!"

Well, we've seen this playbook before with XMPP.

If a protocol is killed because a single megacorp starts to use it and then drops it, then who's at fault? XMPP was just a hard to use, outdated protocol.

Are you implying Linda Yaccarino is a weirdo? Oh wait, the chip on your shoulder is so big you can't even differentiate opinions anymore.

Come on, no weirdo-shaming. Elon was a cool weirdo before we found out he was also a racist prick.

Who is we? Is this 'we' you're talking about in the room right now?

You mean the... drum rolls Collective Zeitgeist?[1] Of course it's in the room, man. At least since the mid 20th century. You know, the society Of spectacle[2], the whole "In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes" thing. I know, I hate it too.

Elon has become the Kanye of IT world. That's unfortunate but it's the truth.

(Late Registration also is way better than any Tesla around though, so maybe not the fairest comparison).

I just find it impressive that you can draw conclusions about persons/situations and state them as facts when you yourself have no personal investment in them.

You don't find that a little bit strange? Instead of saying "It's a Twitter clone", you thought it would be wise to drag people into your own miserable (and false) opinions. For what, to make them just as miserable?

Everyone but the weirdo boot lickers.

All the operational decisions are still being made and announced personally by Elon.

Technically Elon Musk is a CEO, and he is at the helm of Twitter, so Twitter does have an impulsive weirdo CEO at the helm, even if that impulsive weirdo CEO isn't the CEO of Twitter.

And so bad privacy that they chose to not even launch in GDPR countries. https://techcrunch.com/2023/07/05/threads-no-eu-launch/
