Why Buy Anything You Could Borrow (Especially If You’re Renting)?

Borrow it if you'll need it once. Buy it if you need it again. It helps to have friends who also have specialized tools. After 5 years, I had a specialized tool given back to me. It had been passed around among friends. I needed it for a job so I bought it, but won't likely need it again for several years. After I got the tool back, it was loaned back out within a week. It's a benefit of being part of a community. Make friends, swap tools and services.

Maybe if you live in a apartment I suppose.

But as a landowner and a business owner, having the right tools and materials. at hand is essential.

If you live a lifestyle conducive to renting things then more power to you.

Its just not for me, and never will be.

Why own anything? Why not have us extract rent from you for every item in your life?

I agree. if you use it only a few times or want to try it out renting is fine. once you get serious about using something owning usually is the cheaper superior path. you always can use what you own, not a promise for rentables.
