Ask HN: How would you make an additional $500k in 1 year?

Try out for the NHL, MLB, NFL, or NBA. Those are part-time jobs and minimum salary is in the $720k (MLB) to 953k (NBA) range. Don't waste your time with the WNBA or MLS, they start in the 5-figures and there are no stock options and the kombucha in the break room isn't very good.

Additional? Implying I make at least 500k a year already? I wish, maybe I’m in the minority here. I’d be pretty stoked if I made only 500k a year, never mind the additional.

For starters: Make your past into a super resource and valuable platform to support this new effort. Bring all the best of your past forward.

(Mentioning this partly because you aren't offering any context, and that's where I'd start to look for the money-making opportunity you are asking about...)

I'd start by making 650K, then pay a 90K salary to some smart beancounter who figures out how I can get away with paying only 60K in additional income tax. And, lo and behold, 500K just like that.

Go to Kuwait, partner with one of the ruling family members, and set up a BTC mining company to mine bitcoins - since it still seems to be legal, as of now. Kuwait is one of the cheapest places to do this. Once you have made enough, sell the company to the ruling family and leave forever.

Sell a million dollars worth of stuff that only costs you $500,000 shipping included

Move to USA then teamblind.com, leetcode.com, FAANG etc. Only problem is getting a visa.

If you could build and grow a B2B SaaS to $10k MRR, it's plausible you could sell it for $500k (a 4.16x revenue multiple). Much easier said than done, though.

- Resell concert tickets and/or other sought after goods on a larger scale?

- Get a few remote jobs?

There’s plenty of inefficiencies around us, you just have to look hard enough.
