Leave 20 years worth of delicate research in an old freezer. If the freezer breaks and everything inside starts heating up, don't worry... there's no need to rush to get someone who can repair it immediately. No need either to have a backup freezer to transfer the samples; or to leave someone guarding the lab until the freezer is fixed. Just paste a note in the door and go home. Don't worry about leaving the alarm blaring all day, you're not the one who has to listen to it. And if the samples get spoiled, blame the janitor.
I am not willing to accept that "The samples" and "the research" are the same thing
