Maybe they're hoping people sign up for this and then forget about it, like they do with the headsets themselves...
The tactic worked for Microsoft. The Xbox is a fairly unremarkable console on it's own, but with Game Pass it becomes a better value prop than a Nintendo Switch. Meta is even copying the "Starting at $1/month" blitz that Microsoft did.
Time will tell, but I think it's a smart move. A lot of VR content is short-form and well suited for a subscription style binging option.
There is a critical difference. Game pass gives you access to the entire library from day one. This one requires you to log in once a month to claim the two new games and also hold onto the subscription to keep them in your account. Day one is only a game or two.
Vastly different tactics.
Nice catch! I assumed it was a Netflix-style subscription, not a Humble Bundle one. That could significantly damper adoption among Quest owners.
This seems more like PlayStation Underground, like at the dawn of 3D. Probably sane, demos are great.
Meta Quest has huge adoption among youth. The headsets are selling well. There's no indication that trend won't continue and increase especially as that generation grows up.
