Carbon fiber has been used in automobile construction for nearly 2 decades in a production capacity. It’s a mature technology which has proven itself.
F1 and deep-sea diving occupy "at the limit" or extreme performance envelope of materials, so it would be important to constantly evaluate the material, especially under repeated stress.
Carbon fiber bikes will suddenly break, while metal bikes fail gradually, right? With carbon fiber deep underwater or hurtling at greater orders of magnitude, the material stresses and quality checks seem to be even more crucial.
"Shelf life" in this instance may or may not be a related engineering detail, and may not be specific to this story.
I meant, "Yes, (since the article only mentions availability of a new carbon fiber chassis and nothing else about related accidents), there's no reason to suspect the carbon fiber monocoque is substandard."
Maybe the comment itself is inaccurate? I'm not sure.
