I understand your concern, but if we were interested in a quick exit we wouldn't be working on this lol.

We're looking for venture backing because getting a consumer hardware startup off the ground is really expensive!

You may discover that once you take money your specific interest is no longer the focus.

I feel this is the type of business that's based on scratching their own itch. They're part of the market they aim to serve. They should still have that itch after taking the money.
