I can relate to that.

I used to keep white mice and rats as a kid and I noticed repeatedly that when the population rose above a critical level the animals' behavior would change. The most notable change was that they would stop and or slow their breeding. What shocked me most was that mothers would actually kill their babies by biting them—usually on their bellies.
