Excellent article. When you listen to European politicians and managers speaking English – sometimes for audiences that include few or no native speakers – it becomes quite apparent that the language spoken is understood by listeners and considered normal, even though it contains elements that sound odd to native speakers. That's how dialects develop.
Will indian standard usage eventually give americans some empathy for the english?
(I used to think this would be soon, but am told the percentage of anglophones on the subcontinent is currently very low)
