The End of Screens?

Just had this discussion here a couple days ago [0].

While I certainly see AR glasses supplementing screens, I don’t ever see them entirely replacing screens. One screen can broadcast to multiple people, but literally everybody would need to have compatible, functioning AR glasses to share a virtual screen. What if someone in the room can’t afford the latest iGlass version, and their old iGlass 3 isn’t compatible with the screen being served on someone else’s iGlass 6? If your battery died or your glasses couldn’t connect to WiFi or broke entirely it would not only mean you couldn’t see your own screens, but also be unable to see anyone else’s.

As of 2022, only 80% of the US (and 60% of Mexico, for comparison) own smartphones [1]. I don’t see a future where literally 100% of sighted people in the world own intercompatible AR glasses, since that’s the only way we could get rid of screens entirely.

Cut two holes in a paper bag. Put paper bag on your head. Look at three monitors through the holes you cut.

Same experience but resolution is much better.
