What exactly does a chief diversity officer do? I have never been able to understand it. Why is is not just another HR function? Like this position can only exist with substantial power for it to make any sense, and I doubt any company would want to do that. So what is the point other than pretending to do atonement.
The job of chief diversity officer also have roles outside HR. Mainly in marketing (a lot of PR, community outreach etc.) and some planing (like advising leadership about how to improve company inclusivity in services and products).
