The corolla was a small car. In the 90s. Not any longer
Seems to be a trend. Not sure if someone's already coined a term for it, but I've noticed that with each revision, each model of car tends to get a little bigger, a little roomier, etc. Over time they grow - after all, nobody wants to say that last year's model had more legroom and whatnot. Soon, there's no such thing as a small car in the lineup, and a new model is introduced at the bottom, repeating the process.
Nah; a Corolla is an "intermediate": compact < intermediate < standard < full-size.
