What watching my daughter play ‘The Legend of Zelda’ taught me

IIRC, Link's Awakening is a sequel to Link to the Past, Majora's Mask to Ocarina of Time, A Link Between Worlds also to Link to the Past (more of a proper sequel perhaps, the Japanese title has a 2 in it even).
But I think Spirit Tracks is a sequel to Phantom Hourglass, which may have been a sequel to Wind Waker? Edit: I looked this up, and this is the case. Phantom Hourglass is a direct sequel to Wind Waker, you play the same Link. Spirit Tracks is 100 years in the future but still a sequel, you play a new different Link but it's the same world.
Also Zelda 2 is unquestionably a sequel to Zelda 1
The Zelda timelines are super weird, no question, but it's absolutely loaded with sequels. I have no idea what this writer is talking about.
But recently I showed the original Zelda to my 11yo daughter. After a minute or two she lost interest and said “this game is so violent, you’re attacking these creatures and stealing their gems.”
Interesting perspective from across the generation gap!
That escape would exist, and it would be called Minecraft. But, at the time, in the maze I had to remain. :c
