Early on, before climate science developed modern models, there were a few people who thought, based on historical timing of glacial periods, that we would eventually enter a new ice age. More recent data has shown that that is not likely as long as we are pushing the climate to ever warmer levels. Eventually, if that effect fades, we could go back into a glacial cycle again but that would probably take some thousands of years.
We have changed the environment in a manner that significantly decreases the probability of individuals born after 2020 reaching the age of 50. Additionally, there is a substantial risk that the evaporation of water will exponentially heat the atmosphere within the next 50 years.
Alternatively, we are extending the interglacial, which is already longer than expected.
The climate models that the IPCC relies on don’t model glaciation.
