A Note to Readers from Editor in Chief Emma Tucker

Kind of a shame. They are shorter than first names, and, at least for women, convey a lot about a person's station and attitudes in life

The editor says "It puts everyone on a more-equal footing and will help make our writing livelier and more approachable."

I think this actually has the opposite effect. Only medical doctors, senators, military, religious leaders, and royalty are given the courtesy of polite address. Everyone else is unworthy?
