I say that as someone that generally agrees with what they are trying to push, just not -how- they are doing it.
Shows like Rings of Power, The Witcher, Pater Pan, etc and what is meant to be a docudrama aren't appropriate properties to exercise creative licence with casting to further said agenda.
Existing loved stories/franchises which have established cannon around appearance, personality and development arcs of characters should be respected. If you don't admire the source material as it is, just don't adapt it - create new and interesting stories instead.
It can obviously be done tastefully as House of the Dragon proves, they didn't butcher existing loved characters they fleshed out lesser known ones and casted diversity in a way that didn't undermine the established cannon.
We have had some amazing original stories in the past years that fit the themes that are trying to be pushed in these adaptions. Can we stick to doing that instead of alienating fan bases of established franchises?
Why post this? It's a fluff piece on a supposedly bad Netflix show the author did not even bother to watch.
