What % of comments will be GAI generated, I wonder? How much of this will be corrupt fallen horseshit like the Lead ID & LCX news, of these folks getting hired to drum up public comments for pro business cases, & impersonating millions of public commenters https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=35934504 https://ag.ny.gov/press-release/2023/attorney-general-james-...
My feeling is that trying to over regulate & clamp down won't help here. But the threat to open society is huge here, I acknowledge, and my god are we quickly coming clinging for security & assurity; we are sold that uncertainty & bedlam are the norm, we are shocked to disbelief of what we have & hunger for change, any promise.
I want defense systems, but I don't want to hurt AI overmuch. And I don't want a new world regime where "to prevent abuse" you can only use attestable devices (aka devices you the user cannot control), https://github.com/RupertBenWiser/Web-Environment-Integrity/..., and only after you present government id, https://github.com/WICG/mobile-document-request-api.
We are both easily manipulated & they get away with it, but just as bad, fear sells. The idea of disinformation is a very viral meme, spreads panic quickly, that we readily sign onto. And how would we know otherwise? How can we intelligently doubt doubt when the doubt itself is so often vague gesticulations?
I want to come to some better conclusions, but this is such a fucked age. We have scary bad hard to detect abilities to be appear authentic but be deeply inauthentic, at huge scale. And we need real responses. But what we will do in the name of this crusade against Uncertainty is going to be likely as bad.
