Number one front page thread just vanished

Someone put Caroline Ellison's genetics IQ analysis on Hacker News and it immediately went to the top of the front page and was exploding in more posts and upvotes than I ever saw, but then it mysteriously vanished. I don't think it's even marked as flagged? https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=35901453

OK now I see it marked as flagged. I guess the mods had to take faster action than their normal processes.

The community does the VAST majority of the moderation. The "mods" is one person who steps in when the normal system fails in one way or another.

Yes I think that's why I was surprised and confused. I never saw them 'step in' until now when they intervened with that post.

Dang did not step in, he comments when he does. This was purely community moderation
