This, on the other hand, is abject madness. I’m told it has no chance of actually making it into law, but if I were a CA-based resident or business owner, I would at least be uncomfortable with the prospect and doing some early investigation into fleeing the state.
I believe that this recommendation has a very slim chance of passing into law, especially given California’s fiscal situation and growing financial burdens for assisting the homeless.
Native Americans, on the other hand, have a much more legitimate claim to make in California in my opinion. Their land was stolen from them, and that same land is extremely valuable in 2023.
For the record: 1. California was never a slave state.
2. California did not exist as a state until 1850 when it entered as a free, non-slavery state.
3. The demographic fraction of blacks in California is 5%, compared to 13.5% nationally.
