Except, of course, The Beatles never broke up. You can download Everyday Chemistry and listen for yourself.

The Beatles never broke up, they changed their name to The Vinyl Kings in 2002 and released two amazing records.

But in the end it was ELO's entire mission to pick up where the Beatles left off, and the interesting thing is that Jeff Lynne went on to produce George Harrison's greatest solo album and work with the rest of the Beatles in one way or another... except for John Lennon.

He was also tapped to produce the one "lost" Beatles recording, which was admittedly rather unremarkable.

I still laugh about Ringos comment - 'ELO broke up when they ran out of our stuff to recycle'

Ive seen Jeff Lynne laughing at that too in interviews

Ha, Ringo did complain that "they're stealing our best riffs."

I'm glad everyone can laugh about it now.

Whenever I am feeling blue, just the name cheers me up. It's like a magic incantation. Jeff Lynne.

Did you know there were two of those "lost" recordings? I assume you mean the old Lennon demos that the rest of the band recorded in the 90s.

"Free as a Bird", which I recall being a big deal in the UK at least, but ultimately very disappointing; and later "Real Love", which flew under the radar a bit but I think is a much better song.

Interestingly, checking wikipedia, it sounds like "Real Love" came from a much more complete demo, so it's more of a "proper" Lennon song without so much new 90s input from the others.

I'm pretty sure I'm thinking of "Free as a Bird."

Never saw the appeal of ELO, including any of their greatest hits. Compared to the Beatles they're not just second rate (that would be e.g. the Byrds), but third rate.

The Albums That Never Were site has featured multiple Beatle "what if?" albums over the years, including post-breakup.

Sounds similar in concept to the Black Album featured in the film Boyhood:

If we still had 50 year copyright their entire output would be public domain now.

McCartney is still alive.

That'd be "author life + N years" (current situation) rather than a strict "N years" (like patents). There's probably a decent case that can be made that copyright should be a strict N years.

I get that and would personally support such reforms, but I meant that if we "still had" the older setup then that would be death + 50.

What you mean is...

Frodo lives.[1]

Paul is not dead is what I shoulda said!

This is heavily disputed...

A potential post Beatles album by the Beatles reminded me of the 1976 hype around Klaatu[0]

You had me at "their disco phase."
