Show HN: Stop nail-biting with your MacBook's webcam

Hey HN! I made this app because I bite my nails way too much while I code

It uses Mac's Vision library to track the location of your hands and mouth via the webcam.

Then when it catches you biting, it temporarily covers your screen with a big obnoxious warning. You have to stop biting if you want to continue seeing anything.

It's helped me a lot, so I hope it can help other nail-biters here :)

Purchased just now, and then sent you a support request via your contact form.

Thanks, looking into it!

Thanks!

Nice. I've never had the issue but I appreciate seeing a unique project. I'm curious how well it works and if the technology is applicable to any other habits.

Thanks! :) Yeah I'm surprised no one else made it yet to be honest, it seems like a pretty natural use of the face/hand tracking tech

FYI: Product hunt link is wrong

It shows kianpak.handsdown.com instead of handsdown.kianpak.com

Also, I’m planning on upgrading to a new Mac. How would transferring the license work?

Thanks for letting me know about that! No license, you can just use the same download link to download the app again

Great idea but how much for the picking nose add-on? :D

A few people have made this joke, to the point where I'm wondering if there's not a hint of truth in it :p

+1 requesting for a friend ;)

This is genius. I definitely do have this issue. Sadly I am not on MacOS anymore or I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Ugh, that pains me to be so close to helping you out, yet so far. Unfortunately I only have a Mac, so I can't realistically develop apps for other platforms :( Sorry.

But thanks for letting me know!

Great idea. Is it Mac only though?

Thanks! It is indeed Mac only, because it uses MacOS's built in Vision library for the hand and face detection.
