Alan Kay’s definition of OOP is quite distinct from the mainstream one, and just because he is the coiner of the term doesn’t make him automatically right.

I didn't say, or mean to imply, he was automatically right, just pointing out yet another interpretation

I'm pretty sure you can do OOP in modern C. I've seen a raytracer in C that implemented it's own dispatch table, and effectively acted like OOP.

You can also do OOP in assembler if you have nerves of steel.
