$2k Hackintosh Smashes the $4k Mac Studio

5-7x power draw, 10x+ footprint, unstable ground, not respecting P/E cores, random missing features, Intel....

Also I really don't like it when a YouTuber is constantly laughing at their own jokes like this. It feels so forced and fake. Stop feigning surprise, it's childish.

This guy spends quite a bit of time going over what it takes to get macOS to install but still makes it seem like it's easy to do, it's just not. I've done it and it's a cool toy but a pain for daily use. Every little thing that goes wrong/weird has you wondering "Is it macOS or my hackintosh?". $2K for peace of mind is cheap IMHO.

I built and used Hackintosh desktops for years, always paired with a Macbook Pro.

When the M1 Air came out, I bought one on launch day. I replaced my Hackintosh shortly after with an M1 mini...and haven't looked back.

Hackintoshes these days border on impossible.

I quit trying to get a T480 to become a Hackintosh due to freezing caused by an incompatibility with the SSD. M1 Max is so damn fast.

Every person I know who's tried to use a Hackintosh ends up just buying a mac. The hassle of keeping it working perfectly just isn't worth the time. Sure you save 2k or whatever but what do you lose when a sleep bug makes your machine crash, or you're dodging security updates to preserve a working config?

Isn't that the point of the new more cumbersome install method that the video is about? Most things seem to work out of the box and you can do security updates.

It always seemed as something people do for a cool tech project or bragging rights, not to maintain it as a daily driver. Sort of like building and running arch linux from source. Sure, there are people who daily drive it really well...but it still definitely seemed to be more of a cool project akin to getting Doom or Doom variants running on toasters, fridge televisions, etc.

If only artificial scarcity were illegal and hackintoshes were legal.
