‘That’s my tank on fire’ James Meek watches the video war in Ukraine

Why was it on the front page of my most recent Sunday paper then?

The newspapers for April 25, 2023:

New York Times national edition, page A1, top left corner headline "Battle Looms And, for Kyiv, Immense Risks". Beside it, a four-column photograph illustrating a story "Allies Took In Ukraine's Grain as Theirs Piled Up."

Washington Post page A1 upper left corner: "The Discord Leaks: Kyiv held off Russia attacks at U.S. behest."

Ignoring for a sec that the war in Ukraine is still very much front-and-center: it ain't unusual for still-active conflicts to get reduced news coverage as they go on. See also: Syria.
