UK families tell of threats and police warnings over children playing in street

Were they obstructing a highway? Yes.

That they move out of the way of cars is besides the point.

Were they a nuisance to neighbours? Probably.

There's parks, gyms and other recreational areas to play sports.

The world has changed significantly in terms of traffic. No, it isn't safe in a lot of areas. Even 30 years ago, it was becoming iffy to play in the street in a lot of places in the UK. I know several people that got hit by cars as kids, myself included. I was OK, I didn't even tell my parents, I said I'd fallen off a wall I was walking along, other people weren't so lucky.
