Two Categories of Journaling

This is just an ad...

Anyway, I like journaling. I don't see a reason to reduce it to an either/or activity. I use Obsidian and "jumble" my practical note taking with my introspective stuff. Plus it shows me upcoming birthdays, the daily weather, and a fun picture of a dog![1]

Hold on, I may have just invented a cool new app! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Here's the free product being advertised:

https://jumblejournal.org/

To be fair, it is a free tool, looking for donations

> Jumble is free. Secure daily journaling will always be free. In the future we hope to introduce some premium features on top of the free tier. We could not continue to build and improve this product were it not for the generous donations from our users (donation link at the bottom of page).

it's definitely valid to mix the two; the article is just one way to categorise which is subjective; but it is a mental model I found helps to keep in mind for my own journaling practice

A friend once told me that I'd get a lot more out of journalling if I first write what I did that day/week/month. Once that's done, to write about feelings and angst and joy.

I think that it honestly is great advice. When i look back on my journal, it's good to know where my headspace was, but I also feel tgat knowing where and with who i was is super informative.

But as others have said this article is little more than an ad with little info.

agree; I like to have a record of what I did -- I do this in the evening via a bullet journal. I write the emotional stuff in the morning long hand

Years ago I read this great book about that first category of journaling, although IMO a fast pen and paper gives the right balance of stream of consciousness and output speeds

thanks for the recommendation; I didn't know about this book, will give it a read
