Ask HN: How did you hire your best SaaS Growth Hacker?

3 pointsvfc14 comments

Hi everyone, I'm looking to hire my first marketing and growth professional, for my SaaS company.

How did you find the best growth hacker that you have ever hired?

Please share any specific tips and tricks, namely where did you find them, like job boards, forums, etc.

I did not have success so far in the usual places like Upwork, etc., it seems that's not where they hang out.

I'm looking for someone with a good understanding of common SaaS early growth tactics like lifetime plans, PPC on dedicated review websites like Capterra, G2, etc. experience launching on Product Hunt, and overall a great understanding of how to grow a SaaS product on the early stages in general.

Any tips you can give on the best job boards or sites to find great growth hackers would be very helpful.

Thanks everyone, cheers.

IMO one of the founders must be the chief growth hacker. Hiring people to delegate execution of details is easier. Curious about replies.

Yes I'm definitively the chief growth hacker, I take care of a lot of the marketing activities myself. But I need help, preferably from someone with some relevant experience growing a SaaS company.

In your view, what are some of the core competencies that as growth person should have? Looking forward to hear your thoughts, thank you.

For me, someone having experience growing their own projects is a big one (hard bonus if they were able to monetize). But generally, I look for:

- Creativity: Growth hacking often involves coming up with unconventional ideas to drive growth, so a growth hacker must be creative and willing to try new things.

- Entrepreneurial Mindset: be willing to take risks and be adaptable to changes.

- Persistence: Growth hacking involves a lot of trial and error. They should be willing to experiment with different ideas and strategies until they find what works.

- Customer focus: needs to understand customer needs and behavior. This means being able to speak with customers, analyze their feedback, and incorporate it into the growth strategy.

Hi everyone, anything that you would like to share about your experience hiring growth professionals would be tremendously helpfpul.

Anything from job boards, interview tips, the type of deal you propose them, do you hire them as an employee or offer equity, or anything else you can think of.

Thank you so much for any insight in this matter.
