Use of ‘sexist’ and ‘racist’ in the NYT increased over 400% since 2012

Kind of odd phrasing in the title but looking at the article it notes that this language had a big uptick in the early 2010s. I have seen images floating around showcasing the phenomenon in various charts and the observation offered is that in coincides pretty closely with the Occupy movement. The popular theory surrounding this is that it was a way for the powers that be to redirect efforts from wealth inequality to racial and gender issues via use of the corporate media. How true that is, I do not know, but it's been an idea floating around for years now.

I could see it.

Especially given the big push toward everyone doing layoffs, prices not being allowed to return to something sane, etc...

True or not it does seem to have a correlation. I don't hear many complaining about wealth inequality now. I do hear many complain about inequality between identity groups.

It seems however, that the most extreme inequality is not between identity groups but social classes.

2012 feels like year zero for a lot of the change we're experiencing now.

For a real eye-opener they ought to track NYT's mentions of the name Emmett Till.
