"Aquanauts". "Water sailors". Since the water is implied by the sailor bit (astronauts and aeronauts being effectively "sailors but in space"/"sailors but on the air"), couldn't we just say.... "Nauts"? Or, to stick more closely to the Greek, "Nautes"?

The deepest dive record claim is really interesting. I was curious if I could some more context around it. Lo and behold, the deepest dive records I can find by anyone, regardless of gender or whether or not it’s with scuba, and all of which are modern, aren’t that deep. I wonder what AOs source is.

Here's the Guinness record: https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/630558-de...

There's more on the web if you search for her name: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=earle+deepest+dive

The JIM is a hard suit, so depth limits are very different to Scuba: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/JIM_suit

Correct. The record is for "deepest untethered sea walk", and the JIM suit is generally classified as a submersible, similar to a one-person submarine.

scuba units are usually defined as a breathing apparatus that deliver breathable gas at ambient pressure. The life support system inside a hard suit deliver breathable gas at atmospheric pressure.

Awesome, thank you! I did a similar search to yours but didn’t turn that record up. This was just before bed for me, so I must’ve overlooked her.

That suit looks just like a big daddy from Bioshock!

Here is a varied summery of different world records (and more) for deepest dive regardless of gender or equipment: https://www.divescotty.com/underwater-blog/deepest-dive-and-...

I wonder why the designers of that underwater lab chose to place the bunk beds in the kitchen area.

It's a space mission analogue environment, with an expectation of minimal real estate, you're looking at a self contained "living module" as opposed to a science module.
