This combined with the recent headlines Kia made by promising to keep real buttons, highlights the opportunity to innovate a modular tactile button system. While LCD and OLED physical button surfaces address the backlit labeling issue, a standardized modular system which allows replacing, modifying and expanding physical control surface layouts without substantial re-engineering seems needed. Obvious applications include automotive, home automation, media/music production and of course instrumentation of all kinds.
Analogue controls are easier to understand and interface with under pressure.
A separate question for observation, are we better off with analogue all the way down for life support systems? These too were early cost complications in the F-35/22 program .
Trust physics over digital logic whenever mission critical!
