Take this to its logical extreme, and you have Mad Max writ large: fortresses filled with sensible people (and desirable resources), fighting off the yahoos driving hacked-up hot rods and choppers.

Any thoughts on Congress’ appetite for approving such changes? It would just be a simple law, and a 60 vote threshold in the Senate. No supermajority necessary.

I see no reason why Senate Democrats would vote for this. It would be giving more electoral votes to a red state and taking them away from a blue state, as well as setting precedent for red-leaning parts of other blue states to do the same.

60 votes is a lot in a split Senate.
