What Happened To 2-5-2 Aircraft Seating Configurations?

I once flew across the Atlantic from New York to London while using that middle row as a bunk-bed. I remember that being a 5-seat row, but I could be mistaken, it was 1988 after all.

About a dozen of us economies in an almost-empty jumbo. We all had a 'bed' for the night. It was a bit disconcerting to wake up, sit up, and look around. Nobody else was visible. It was like being the only person on a ghost flight.
