Ask HN: What modern tools should be standard part of a modern unixy distro?Why?

I've been consistently surprised basic utilities (netstat, iostat, screen (or tmux), etc etc) are NOT by-default installed on servers with a 'vanilla' instal (ie not requiring an extra kickstart or autoyast)

On linux netstat is considered legacy and has been superseded by ss which is installed by default as part of the iproute2 package.

jq/fq - for working with json/binary formats

csvkit/miller - for working with csv, tsvs

rg/fzf - for search and fuzzy finding

csvkit and miller are both extraordinarily slow

try xsv (https://github.com/BurntSushi/xsv) or zsv (https://github.com/liquidaty/zsv) instead (the latter of which I'm an author of)

There are many tools like lsd, bat, fd and a few more.
