Nice to have some alternatives. I use gotty for this. As for usecases, it's easy to quickly show my terminal with a teammate for code I need help with or showing off a demo of real command uses to others. I generally don't allow the client interaction, just read only view.

This once again reminded me: is there a simple, one-click way for a completely non-IT person to ask for remote assistance without having to configure sshd and getting a static IP address?

Is it an alternative to shellinabox ?

Maybe with the added feature of screen sharing, file upload/download.

I've used termpair, a good alternative.

I've used the chrome ssh extension to connect using regular ssh from inside a browser. Any advantages over ssh?

That sounds like a security nightmare tbh.

That has never worked for me. I thought it was deprecated.

I used to use termcast, easily installable with cpanminus.

What are the main use cases for tools like this?

Malware ?

Maybe could be useful to show what are you doing to your colleagues inside the office.

using public WiFi that blocks SSH but let's http and https pass through

For future reference.

Another option for that is sslh [1] Running https + ssh + vpn all on port 443 at the same time.

I've used this before and am of the opinion that it drastically slows down web page loading

This is used by VHS (https://github.com/charmbracelet/vhs) to create GIF demos of CLIs/TUIs.

shameless plug for a similar application of my own but I use webrtc for the transmission layer.
