USB-C/USB3/Thunderbolt/USB-3.2 SuperSpeed 4x4 is obviously a better choice for literally everything, nothing quite beat the chunkiness of a PCMCIA card. The creative ways people made attachments work (e.g. a pop-out connector for an rj45/rj11 port) was great.
