Running a bank sounds like a huge PITA.

This is correct. The only reason people still do it is because it makes them boatloads of money, not because it is fun in any way.

Totally. Working in a bank exposes you to the fun parts of running a bank, without the stress of it being your bank.

Let's hope (for all our sake) your work continues for a loooong time, fun and not-so-fun.
