The anti-ESG industry is taking investors for a ride

The inconvenient truth is that most S&P 500 firms pass the ESG screener so an ESG fund performs about the same as an S&P 500 fund. You just pay more fees. ESG funds don't take hard lines such as "Using Facebook is like smoking cigarettes and it is poorly governed because nobody can tell Zuck what to do" and do the right thing.

Anti-ESG funds will invest in the crumbs that are left and be very volatile and will have even higher fees. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. As depressing as it is, it's hard to justify investing in anything other than SPY or QQQ (or generic equivalents) for most people.

They should go to grad school instead.
