Ask HN: What Is a Honey Pot?
What is that, legally.

But Honeypots can also also be viewed as forms of entrapment, and this can bring much of the internet when viewed as a honeypot into the context of entrapment and in some country's entrapment is illegal, ergo has the state prosecuted some people whilst ignoring the entrapment element?
``Entrapment is a practice in which a law enforcement agent or agent of the state induces a person to commit a "crime" that the person would have otherwise been unlikely or unwilling to commit. It "is the conception and planning of an offense by an officer or agent, and the procurement of its commission by one who would not have perpetrated it except for the trickery, persuasion or fraud of the officer or state agent".''
``In law enforcement, a sting operation is a deceptive operation designed to catch a person attempting to commit a crime. A typical sting will have an undercover law enforcement officer, detective, or co-operative member of the public play a role as criminal partner or potential victim and go along with a suspect's actions to gather evidence of the suspect's wrongdoing. Mass media journalists occasionally resort to sting operations to record video and broadcast to expose criminal activity.''
So you think the state gives the population a good education, especially in law then?
There is a saying which backs up my position, "no knowledge of the law is no defense of the law". Its a UK cultural saying, the sort of things intellectual criminals would come up with.
When considering politicians, education and law enforcement are all agents of the state, it reinforces my position solidly, except for the criminals of the state who play dumb because their jobs would be on the line!
