Tilde.news – A Link Aggregator for the Tildeverse
tilde.news
tilde.news
My very limited understanding is that the tildeverse is a network of public *nix servers where people have accounts. It seems like people host tiny home pages and those are publicly accessible.
Do these people submit links to the aggregator? Is it like Hacker News, just with a different audience?
They offer public access Unix, chats, hosting and various other services.
Very different from other pubnixes like SDF, because at tilde the public systems are really a basis for a community, whereas users on other pubnixes tend to just do their own thing.
Copy paste the link to save a minor annoyance. It's a bit persistent as they used a 301 permo redirect, open incognito if you've already clicked it.
I don't know how many people you've known who ran successful bars. I've known several. It is not a profession that is kind to the weak, and Zawinski's thrived in it for what must by now be at least twenty years.
I don't particularly care for the man; mostly I think he's kind of an asshole whose political opinions ossified some time around the year I was born, and whose ability to appreciate the world as is seems entirely circumscribed thereby. I do nonetheless recognize that he is worthy of my respect. Armchair psychoanalysts, not so much.
So you know him personally? Talked about this? Have some background in personali...
"He runs a bar!"
Seems legit.
"Armchair psychoanalysts, not so much."
Indeed.
When I last explored the tildeverse it was rife with easily triggered precious snowflakes actively searching for reasons to be offended. It wouldn't surprise me if the fee-fees protection comment had at least a grain of truth to it...
Prior experience strongly suggests your next move, or someone's, will be to ask why I stay here myself, if I have such a low opinion of the place. The question is pointless, and has two answers. One is for the opportunity to indulge my own love for needless pettifogging and disputation, a flaw in my character I have never managed fully to extirpate. The other is that once in a blue moon, at a rate slightly in excess of that I've seen most other places, someone here does actually say something worth taking seriously. Perhaps this thread will surprise me in that regard.
I spent more time trying to find why there was a rickroll than I did on the site itself. Honestly it worked perfectly on me.
Snipe the nerds before they can interact with your community.
In all serious though I do get it, I'd definitely avoid injecting Reddit and HN into a small community. You're just asking to overload the culture and Eternal September yourself doing that.
If you go through the comments you'll see the author had to switch to manually approving new accounts almost immediately because people from here started posting racial slurs.
So, yeah, I can absolutely see why some people might wanna do things like this.
Public Access Unix Systems are shared computers that people share and log on to.
(activity itself is very light so a feed helps)
(warning may be political)
I can understand that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but this is a little blatant, they didn't even "tilderize" their user profiles to give it a local spin.
At least I can claim that https://littr.me is part of the tildeverse because it uses ~username as a way to reach its users' profiles.
