"Just asking questions" huh? Well unless they are heading somewhere (like towards answers), questions by themselves are not worth a damn. But perhaps you really are trying to post signs to some conclusion you regard as natural? If so just come out with it, because I for one can't guess.

Perhaps someone from the country itself can answer. Why does someone become a meth head and a Buddhist at the same time? They are contradictory choices.

I'm definitely insinuating that the core tenants of the religion by themselves are possibly ineffective by itself at alleviating suffering. But why here at this specific location? What was different?

Another user mentioned it's 1.40 a hit. It's way too accessible.

Every single person on the planet makes contradictory choices every day.

Go ask people how many of them go to bed at their desired time each night.

Don't pretend to be stupid. Bed time is a loose choice. People don't carry importance or weight in it. That's why it's easily violated. Becoming a monk and a Buddhist is a life choice. It is indeed a contradiction and it is indeed important to know why.such a contradiction exists.

Here you’re revealing your ignorance of the situation. “Becoming a Buddhist” in that part of the world is largely a matter of being born in that part of the world. Becoming a monk in Thailand, likewise, is not necessarily some grand spiritual journey like what you’re imagining. It’s practically a cultural norm for young men to become monks for a short period. You know what else some % of normal young men do? Fall to drug addiction!

When disagreeing, please reply to the argument instead of calling names. "That is idiotic; 1 + 1 is 2, not 3" can be shortened to "1 + 1 is 2, not 3."
