The five-day workweek is dead

In the early 2000's I ran a lab and made it a 4 day week. The 5th day, up to the individual but scheduled, was done at home. Mostly it didn't matter if they were actually working, as long as they were easy enough to contact if needed. A fair portion of the work happens "in your head" and so I respected their personal autonomy to think similarly while not actually at the lab. They say the best ideas happen while showering, after all.
And it seemed to work, because every week they came up with new things and stayed motivated. I didn't ever feel like they were abusing it.
I don't think the industry as a whole is moving to this model any time soon, as much as I'd like it to be otherwise.
But you may be exhausting yourself by doing rather than thinking.
