Turkey's most popular social media permanently blocked for misinformation

Ekşi Sözlük is Turkey's oldest(founded in 1999) and most popular social media. The site has been blocked by the Turkish ISP's upon request of the Turkish presidency. The company running the website is incorporated in Turkey and is sometimes criticised for removing content upon legal request without fighting back. The founder of the website is a Microsoft alumni Sedat Kapanoglu, currently living in the USA.

According to the statement by the company, Erdogan's administration didn't even bother to point ot specific content, doesn't request content removal this time. They say the website was used to spread misinformation and cast a bad light on the government and the institutions by showing them as weak after the recent Earthquake.

The website was blocked 2 days ago, they only now were able to obtain the official reason for the ban.
