Relevant context: this person very publicly advertises their Signal number on all of his social media. It's something that would easily be scrapped and likely one of the most prominent public Signal numbers. This is the equivalent of it linking to John Carmack's personal website when giving instructions on setting up a personal website as a software developer.
21st century Jenny[1]... only this time it's got an area code so the victim really only has himself to blame for not redacting his number in that screenshot.
Next horror movie idea : Doxed/hunted by the whole humanity because AI spewing your private information.
AI develops a grudge against you and serves everyone individualized news (because hey, it managed to figure out how to manipulate Zuck's and Elon's systems, making money to pay for ads by manipulating crypto-coins) that make everyone hate you.
There are horror movies based on analog electronics (e.g. The Ring using TV, VHS and telephone). Rarely seen one using digital electronics , I only know Jigoku Shoujo. Will be waiting for AI based horrors.
Maybe ChatGPT is more like a human than I thought. It makes crap up just as much as the next person.
No, it's a language model. It predicts the most likely next word based on the prior words. The text it was trained on includes virtually everything ever written (or anyway everything they could get their hands on), including the written instructions for using signal as well as many people giving out their number. It doesn't have any special ability to make up numbers or choose them at random; numbers are just another kind of word that they can reproduce. It just reproduced whichever number seemed most probable. That could be the numbers it has seen most often, or there could be many with very similar probability, in which case small changes in the prompt and the questions you have asked it should cause it to give out other numbers.
You cannot comprehend the volume of bullshit that ChatGPT is producing right now. More than any human's lifetime, in the blink of an eye. It is just as much a mistake to anthropomorphize this, as it is to anthropomorphize a pair of dice at a craps table. The failure of your average human to successfully administer a Turing test would be no surprise to P.T. Barnum: "there's a sucker born every minute."
