How does this affect book sales? Do average people know this site exists and depend on it, or mostly the tech savvy types frequent zlib? A site like this could be a godsend, but what about the authors? I can see the benefit of this if it would have a lead time of let's say T+1 years (assuming that the first year is most important for sales and not sales over time).
