> “In 1907, downtown was mostly rubble and ash. That’s considerably worse than today’s shift in how people are working,” she said.
Lol you know things are bad when the Mayor is saying at least it isn't as bad as the aftermath of the worst natural disaster in California's history.
And i guess its not surprising. Having lived there and paid attention to the politicians, it reminds me of what would happen if you put a bunch of high school students in charge.
Good intentions but horrible ideas that bear no resemblance to reality.
Gonna go out on a limb here and speculate that taxes are not the problem.
If another scenario is true that some businesses would be retained and others attracted who would otherwise end up somewhere else, city revenues could even be increased over time by this plan as compared to the baseline.
I'd take rubble and ash over piles of human feces.
Attempting to be constructive and give plenty of benefit of the doubt, maybe the point is that SF has always gotten worse before it’s gotten better?
I don't know what to make of it.
* Reasonably priced food and beverages. They are critical if you want people to hang out for longer.
- Instead of adjusting taxes, make change to the vending permits to bring goods+rent prices down. Decent minimum wage (to cut the tipping craziness) and pricing limits.
* Add more parks and place for culture.
- You can start with the parking lot looking something at Howard and Main.
It's depressing passing by and thinking that someone thought that thing was great.
- The transit center is just sad. The first floor is deserted while it could easily have at least a coffee place and art.
* Convert a couple of streets into a park.
- If you are saying there's no people going there, why do we need that many streets?
- It'd be neat to have streets like 3rd or Harrison turned into a park. Maybe other streets if that allows better future expansion of the parks.
- Bike routes would be better if they went through a park. Safer, fewer stops at traffic lights.
- Other cities have done this already,
- https://architectureau.com/articles/converting-roads-to-parksWhen I lived in SF area in 2015 I noted no problems what so ever concerning drug addicts or feces on the sidewalks.
At least she's an enthusiastic dancer.

The entire power structure from California to city on down has to be almost completely changed.
It’s like we have a Midieval government transported into a modern city. The disconnect is so obvious that it can’t be fixed, only total government restructuring will do it.
Governments from 30 years ago transported into modern cities don’t work: that’s basically what we have here.
That doesn’t seem to be imminent so I don’t see it coming back.
Given a bad enough QOL and even the biggest leftist will go all “law and order”.
