Snowpiercer, Infinity Train and Other Erased Streaming You Can No Longer Watch

I cancelled HBO Max solely off of Infinity Train going away. I cannot fathom why their execs went so hard on the anti animation spree. From other articles I read they were just refusing to pay artists and license holders, including for content from their parent corporation.

I thought streaming companies lived and died by their content catalogs. Can anyone give a plausible argument for why HBO voluntarily slashed theirs?

NPR's Marketplace show had a segment on this issue yesterday. Apparently residual creator royalties is a factor in streaming services cutting shows from their lineups as a cost savings factor.

Did the removed shows have much higher residuals than the shows which remain?

HBO doesn’t have the same model as a typical streaming platform, they are closer to the model of their subscription service where they cycle content rather than having a static lineup. The idea is to be more curated with newer or higher quality content.

Netflix and Hulu remove content because they lose the rights, HBO removes it so that it is fresh, but not an overwhelming amount of content.

Well referencing that they cancelled a lot of content that was new or literally done but unaired. The show Infinity Train that I referenced was even completed yet.

The great irony that paid subscription services like HBOMax will simply remove content they don't care to have on their platforms any longer, whereas myriad obscure independent creators on Youtube have published entire webseries over a decade ago which are still around to view. I'm not saying that Youtube doesn't just wipe shit off the map sometimes, but it's usually an accident. There isn't a committee of execs making the decision.

I can't reply to the adjacent dead comment, but I was going to note there's a ton of music videos uploaded to YouTube (often officially) 10-15 years ago that still today are only available in 240p/480p.

Oh yes, you can totally still watch them! Thank the gods for torrent tech, for without it my life would be much blander and my wallet much thinner.

Media outlets have to play dumb if they want to keep their insider access.

Snowpiercer caught my eye - it's on Netflix, isn't it? I'm not in North America, though.

Cancelling a show with 1 season left is so shit.

Not only that. The final season is already filmed!

Damn. But even though it's filmed, there's still post filming work that would need to be done. Wonder why they would scrap it though?

Some of these are still available on iTunes: Love Life, Kidding, and On Becoming a God in Central Florida.

FWIW, if you can figure out a way to watch it, Made for Love was awesome :(. HBO is now forever my enemy :/.
