Why is it not a priority for the Tor Browser to stop phoning Mozilla on startup even when everything network related in settings is disabled? (No telemetry, no automated network connection should be a no-brainer here).

How come 90% of my exit nodes are in the Ukraine now?

This is very unlikely as the total exit capacity is very low in .ua. Only 110.26 MiB/s [0] out of 21083.12 MiB/s [1] total exit bandwidth is in the Ukraine. Have you tried creating a new circuit a few times and look what exit you are using?

I'm all for Ukraine deciding how they want to be called, but in english "the" is not that uncommon when referrening to sovereign countries, e.g. those that have "republic", "states", "lands" in their name. Similar is true for other languages - e.g. in German, "die Ukraine" just sounds a lot more natural than "Ukraine" when used in a sentence. I imagine this could be true for other languages as well and people might end up taking that habbit over to english.

It's fine to politely point it out in political discussion or discussion that is at least focused on Ukraine, but copy pasting canned responses on the mere occurence of "the Ukraine" just comes off as spammy and probably does more to antagonize than educate.

This feels needlessly contrarian. The comment is otherwise in what seems like perfect English. How many times have you yourself made this argument against someone correcting “the Ukraine”? Everyone is saying their bit. Why is yours more deserving?

I only said anything at all because ThePowerOfFuet a) posted the exact same reply twice to different comments and b) rather than giving a personal explanation, linked to an article that is neither succinct nor does a good job of explaining the issue. I have made a simmilar remark to bot-style corrections of "the Ukraine" perhaps once in the past year. I also did not downvote, flag or otherwise discourage ThePowerOfFuet's comments, only point out that formulaic responses to perceived politically incorrect language are perhaps not that productive. You are free to disregard my comment if you do not feel you get any value from it.

And as for the original comment otherwise being perfect english, that doesn't mean much. You can be fluent enough to write a ten-word sentence but still get some details slightly wrong. And I'm not saying that steponlego specifically is not a native speaker, only mentioning that in general use of "the" where it should not be can easily be a second language issue rather than intentional.

The article goes into na vs. v but offers no explanation for why the is inappropriate. Russian doesn't have articles. There is no the in Russian. Pretending that using the Ukraine somehow compromises the sovereignty of Ukraine is ridiculous.

It’s “The Ukraine” and always, ALWAYS has been in English. It just means borderland. And it’s definitely NOT a sovereign nation. It’s simply (now) a project of the Atlantic Group, CIA, NED, the State Department, and etc.

It’s not a country. It’s a cudgel.

Running a relay (non-exit node) has been a rewarding and educational experience.

How so? Are you talking about just the technical parts of running a server, of interactions with law enforcement an other third parties (I would a non-exit node to avoid these, but who knows) or about some kind of data/metadata you are able to collect?

It's not much, but if you want to contribute to the network easily you can host a Snowflake entry point, which allows users from heavily censored countries to access the Tor network.
