I tried it in the past, several years ago, and liked it. Tried again recently, the spin with MATE, but it didn't boot successfully in my machine.
That's a bummer that it wouldn't boot. I had a won't-boot issue when I tried Porteus recently, but I know I didn't compare md5sums before trying it out.
It's hard to find the motivation to get it working in a situation like that though, when you know other distros will probably work fine ootb.
